SGTV for your Fall

Tired of the wick wick wack ish you hear permeating MTV, your local "Hip Hop" station, BET, and those damn kids' down the street car? The SG is your remedy; ditch the Drakes, Gucci Manes, Lil Boosies, Dick Dicky Deezy and the Blingy Boyz, or whoever and check out this shit---

Marco Polo and Torae- Double Barrel - When you mix one of the hottest lyricists out there with one of the finest producers, the result is a stellar album chock full of old school boom bap hard hitting. "That's why me and Marco got into this, we wanted to make a record to make 'em reminisce" Torae lets ya know. And a video with real vinyl, real DJ, no computers or scratch pads here.

Aesthetics Crew - The City Beat - I'm a sucker for West Coast groups that don't have the gun posturing and all that. Old school Hiero or Freestyle Fellowship type ish. These dudes have that vibe in their music and this joint highlights all that: skills, a little more laid back beat, and the Cali lifestyle. Their album "Pandoras Boombox" is one to check for.

Fresh Daily - Untucked Nunchucks - Any track that can work nunchucks into the title is aight with the Slushy Gutter. Love the Brooklyn steez in this video, just an MC walking the streets spitting crazy lyrics referencing everything from Don Imus, Rubik's cubes, Slick Rick, and the "home of the Tims and hoodies."

Brown Bag All Stars - Undeniable - Easy for the SG to be a fan of these cats with plenty of drinking lyrics and drinking jams, images of diggin in the crates, more drinking, and an MC rapping like he's the dude who works down the hall from me. This remix is even hotter than the original from their album "The Brown Tape"

KRS One & Buckshot - "Robot" - These two classic MCs album drops next week, and this is the debut single, giving a glimpse of what is to come on the overall joint. Many studded guests shots including Mary J Blige, Sean Price and most of the Boot Camp Click, and Talib Kweli. This track kind of got buried or overshadowed with the Jay-Z's "D.O.A." but it is still blazin.

Slaughterhouse - "The One" - Yes, this video has the club scene, the drinking scenes, and plenty of scantily clad ladies. But the track is all that, so we'll give it a pass. The Hip Hop super group has come hard with their debut album, and it perplexes me that this joint isn't gettin more mainstream radio love. Joell Ortiz and Joe Budden just completely flip it on the last verse.

More SG TV

Tired of all the ass shaking, club drankin, money tossing, "what they hell is that dude saying?" on your mainstream rap video music channel? We all are. Stop huffing an puffing and rolling your eyes and check out these SG approved morsels of real Hip Hop:

Benneton- Kurious, MC Serch, and DOOM- Yes, it looks like it was shot by the local high school AV club, but Serch pushed away from VH1 long enough to hook up with Kurious Jorge and Zev Love X on this banger. Been a long time since "Walk Like a Duck" and a few pounds since "The Gas Face." As is his MO, DOOM comes correct on the final verse.

Junk Science- Fire Drill- The Nuk Fam is back with an even lower budget video from their upcoming new album. The fish eye camera had it's heyday, but DJ Snafu and Baje One pull it off all artsy-like. According to the notes, they spent no scratch and never left their apartment on this joint.

Sahtyre- J O B- This MC is part of a Los Angeles-based crew called Swin Team and this joint is one of the highlights of the album High Saht. The fam's whole vibe reminds me of some Hiero or Freestyle Fellowship from the Cali of the mid 90s. Hip Hop 2009's version of "Take This Job and Shove It." No royalties for Johnny Paycheck though.

Raekwon f/ Ghostface Killah and Method Man- New Wu- Alot of the Hip Hop realm heard this a while back as "Wu Ooh" but who really cares, because it still bangs. I usually dread "part two" albums that almost beg to recapture a previous classic, but if Only Built For Cuban Links 2 features as many tracks like this, watch out.

Rapper Big Pooh- The Comeback- Well shit, this video does feature ass shaking and throwing money, but we'll give it a pass. With a hook lifted from the seminal Busta "Scenario" verse, peep half of Little Brother's on point lyrics and a nice beat thrown down by Khrysis. Check for the entire album, errr mixtape, or whatever he's calling it, Delightful Bars.

Summer SGTV

Wondering what the hell is being played on the big-time music video networks Hip Hop wise? Plies? Uhhh, please. Flo-Rida? Is that the waitress' gangsta brother? Tyga? Is that a Marvel super hero? From time to time, push away from BET, MTV, and check out SGTV's top picks.

Vordul Mega- Megagraphitti - Come on, how are we gonna not give dap to one half of Can O and his newest joint. Rumors abound last year about his problems, but now with this banger, could a Cannibal Ox new album be far behind?

Skillz f/ Talib Kweli- So Far So Good/Sick- Older heads may remember Skillz when he was Mad Skillz in the mid-90s. Younger heads may recognize the VA lyricist from his annual year-end 'Rap Up' tracks and battle with Shaq. Yes, Shaq. Skillz, tell Shaq how his ass taste.

Craig G and Marley Marl- Made the Change- Last year Marley hooked up with KRS, now he's on the prowl with underground legend Craig G. Since "The Symphony" and his battles along the way, Craig has been one to check for.

Snowgoons f/ Reef the Lost Cauze- This is Where the Fun Stops- A hot track from the equally bangin album from the Snowgoons, Black Snow. This album has everyone on wax making an appearance: RA The Rugged Man, Smif-n-Wesson, Ill Bill, Defari, and more.

Shawn Jackson- Feelin Jack- "I make moves like a U-Haul truck" this MC spits over a mellow laid back beat. The Cali MC makes his moves this summer, on tour on the West Coast, with some dates with Giant Panda.

Pace Won and Mr Green- Hip Hop- This entire album has been on blast for me the past few weeks. Epic production and beats with Pace Won's precise lyrics. Harkens back to a Diamond D early 90's feel.

OLD SCHOOL BLAST- Lord Finesse f/Sadat X, Large Professor, Grand Puba- Actual Facts- I used to think that Puba just stood out on this track, but listening a dozen years later, all four MCs absolutely kill it.

I Want My SG TV

Monumentally smooth, I'll prove it sincerely
To barely when you're near me clearly never sound weary
Maintain the gravity, assault and battery
So sweet the repeat you're bound to catch a cavity...

I recently flipped on MTV and caught what they're playing in the way of Hip Hop videos lately, and of course, I wasn't impressed. The SG needs to be brought in to program that bitch. Let's look at the current rotation and what we'd get in there:

TI f/ Wyclef: You Know What It Is
-TI and Wyclef are running around Haiti in their million dollar yachts, their fancy gear, with pretty ladies in tow, flying in on their Gulfstream Jet, flashing their fancy bling. Being that Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, I’m sure the citizens appreciate their showing off.
Replace With:
Boot Camp Click: BK All Day

Cassidy: My Drink N My 2 Step
-Cass, what happened? I thought the Philly MC’s debut joint was pretty good, he showed he was a pretty good lyricist and had Swizz Beats providing some solid beats. Fiddy even jacked his “Im a Hustler” beat for “I Get Money.” Perhaps after a year and half of legal woes, the lawyer bills are stacking up and the need to sell more ringtones.
Replace with:
NYGz: Ya Dayz R #’d

Hurricane Chris: The Hand Clap
-A great title for this song; given that such other provocative titles like “Snap Your Fingers” were already taken. If your happy and you know it, clap your hands! That’s the sound of no hands clapping, Hurricane Chris. In fact the only hand clap I heard during this video was me slapping my remote.
Replace with:
Percee P: Put it on the Line

Soulja Boy: Crank That
-It might be official that I am old now. When the beginning of this track comes on, kids lose it. There’s even a dance for it, and this Soulja Boy dude says a bunch of words that don’t even rhyme. I hear it on ringtones and it makes me ill. Makes me want to go out and tell some punk aholes to ‘get the hell off my lawn!’
Replace with:
Lupe Fiasco: Dumb it Down

Gucci Mane: Freaky Gurl
-Hold up, a video with hot girls, cars, rims, iced out jewelry and a hook jacked from Rick James! Gotta love our man Gucci with three fly whips parked on his front yard too. The neighbors must be thrilled.
Replace with:
Termanology: So Amazing or Blu and Exile: Soul Amazing
